Even Professionals Take Bad Photos

Bad Funny photos happen. Just like bad hair days and bad sweaters.

Usually during a session there are a handful of images where the subjects are caught off guard at just the wrong moment. They are not nice candids, just unflattering spoofs. They make me chuckle and then get removed from the mix because who really wants to see them?

Actually....Who doesn't want to see them? Spoofs happen to everyone!

Even to professionals.

A few months back when the trees were still golden, I rolled Devin out of bed at sunrise for our family photo. We had the assistance of a good friend working the camera, but we were the subjects. And we got some bad funny photos in the mix. :) We also have a cat (Leisl) and we had to include him in the family photo (duh.) and as anyone who has tried to do a photo with pets can confirm, the pets are sometimes very similar to unruly children. :) Enjoy our spoofs! Be well, Kaht

"Don't let Leisl run away! I'm getting the settings right."

"I know you have treats!! Give. Me. Now. Purrrrrrlease?"

Up. Down. Up. Down. BUTT!

'I so do not belong to this family.'

"Here kitty kitty. Come to...Oh. Of course you come for your mama...."

"Awww, snuggle me too guys!! Snuggle snuggle snuggle MEEEE!" *snuggles*

"Mraaaaaaaa!!! Put me down! Put me down! PUT ME DOWN!!!"

Fine. We can look good without the cat. :)
Happy holiday photo season! Do you have any funny holiday photos??

Snow-No! Snow-fun.

Kitty McGrumpy is having a real fit today because we woke up to a winter wonderland!

I am all, 'Snow dance hurray!'

And he is all, 'Crabby. Crabby. Snow-No! Grump. Blah.'

He has asked to go out several times and each times he pokes his head out, gets a few flakes on his nose and about faces right back inside. This time he actually got his feet wet, but promptly returned to the snow free indoors.

See the hearts in the upper right corner? Maybe the neighbors did those :) Or magic elves.

This has to be the most depressing time of the year for a cat. I wonder if he understands time and how long winter actually lasts? That would really be depressing then...poor kittay.

But we are all excited! This coming weekend we are going to pick out our Christmas tree, so the snow is a welcome and festive sight! Be well, Kaht

And I'm Back!

I feel like I have been gone for a month! Amazing what a week away can do. Amazing how my desk can get so cluttered when I am not even here...Odd really. But I am BACK!

Devin and I travelled to Chicago this past week(end) for a wedding and maternity session. Many wonderful images to share! Stories too :) Then on Monday-Tuesday I headed to Manchester, VT to catch the end of the Vermont Professional Photographers Convention. Perfect timing because I had the pleasure of meeting Justin and Mary Marantz AND got to listen to their "Spread the Love" program. So inspiring! Not to mention it was awesome to sit and chat with them afterwards. *FUN*!

Now I am back, so all the e-mails sitting in my box, beware, you will be tackled today! And all the patient people waiting to hear from me, it will happen today! And since I am madly in love with my cat Leisl, I have to share this image. He found the ONLY sunny spot in the house to curl up on and keeps adjusting as the sun moves :) I'm worried he might fall down the stairs if he moves any further back! :) Enjoy the day and the sun. xo Kaht

Keeping Up with K&D: Cushion Cat

Our family departed this morning to head home to Detroit and as they pulled away the sparkles and dazzles of holiday vacation time trailed off with them into the snowy morning.

Vacation time is officially over.

A feeling of normality permeates our humble abode as I clean up the mittens and wool socks from our ski trips this past week. Everything is tucked away until we find the time to venture out again into Vermont's snowy wonderland.

Leisl pit-pats down the stairs to see what I am up to and rubs once on my legs before belly flopping onto the carpet. I think vacation tuckered him out too.

Now on this first official work day of 20-10, I'm starting off right on those New Year's Resolutions. I'm not going to share what they are because you might hold me accountable. Needless to say, I think I will be my own worst enemy for a little while :) xo Kaht

A fun little image to start the week with: Whenever anyone sits at the computer, Leisl hops up and squashes himself behind the person, basically pushing them to the edge of the chair.

Keeping Up With Kaht and Devin: The Good & Bad

Sometimes it seems that the really good always comes with a side of tasteless bad. Perhaps it is an old wives tale, but once it has happened to you, you peak over your shoulder not really wanting to think it, but slightly wondering...what is going to go wrong.

Last night Devin and I received some wonderful news: my cat Leisl could come live with us! It had been one of those things that we knew could not happen for a while and we had resigned ourselves to leaving Leisl at The Farm with my family. He is a cat, so what does he know? Well, everytime I go down to visit, that cat comes jogging up to me and settles himself in my arms as if to say, "You're staying now, right?"

But now, he can live with us! It was some of the best news ever! I went to sleep with a smile, imagining the weight of Leisl at the foot of our bed.
Then this morning dawned gray and wet. Normal for a fall day in Vermont. I plopped down the stairs to start the day and walked by Ruby's cage. "Morning Ruuuuby!" I sang my normal morning greeting to the round bellied white mouse. And normally she would rustle out of her house and do her belly dance for her morning treat.

It was quiet.

I flipped on the lights and inspected her house. There was my Ruby, cuddled in her bed, quiet and still. There would be no mousey belly dance today.

It had been coming and we knew that. Ruby was pretty old by mouse standards. She started showing her age just this past summer and I knew it would happen soon. She would limp around her cage when she felt stiff and did not run on her wheel as much. But she ate and drank and still did her little belly dance for treats!

We knew it would be soon and I had hoped it would not happen during all the hustle from the wedding because I might have missed it. And she held on and made the kids at the wedding giggle with her skittery moves and nibbly noises.

When she moved with me to Devin's, we would stare at her in the evenings and make jokes about how old and fat she was getting. As if she understood, she would hop on her wheel, give it a half hearted turn and hop off. "I exercise when I want too."

We knew she was old and that it might happen soon...But, I did not know it would happen today.

And I did not know it would make me feel so sad.

I thought it was an old wives tale, but sometimes the good comes with some bad. You just have to focus on the good and not waste your time looking over your shoulder, waiting for the bad. xo Kaht
